What age should my child start 11+ preparation?
Preparation typically begins in Year 3 or Year 4.
At DLG Academy, students begin by building strong foundations in English and Maths before gradually being introduced to Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and exam technique.
This structured approach allows children to develop confidence and understanding over time, rather than feeling rushed in the final stages.
What subjects are covered in lessons?
In Year 3, lessons focus on English and Maths, building strong foundations across the full national curriculum.
From Year 4 onwards, students continue developing English and Maths while also being introduced to Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, exam skills and timed practice.
How are the lessons structured?
Students follow a clear and progressive learning pathway from Year 3 to Year 5, leading up to the 11+.
Each stage builds on the previous one, allowing students to develop understanding, confidence and exam technique gradually through structured teaching, guided practice and regular reinforcement.
How many students are in each group?
Lessons are taught in very small groups, typically with around 4–6 students, allowing for a high level of individual attention and focused learning.
This ensures each child is supported while still benefiting from group discussion and shared learning.
Do students receive support outside lesson time?
Yes. Students receive ongoing support outside of lessons as part of their course.
They are able to stay in contact with their tutor, ask questions and receive guidance on homework and 11+ timed tests whenever needed, ensuring they remain supported and continue progressing between lessons.
This level of support is included within the course and forms an important part of the DLG Academy approach.

Yes. Students are given structured homework each week to reinforce learning and support steady progress.
